Choose Your Health Care Provider

At River City Ob/Gyn, our board certified obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. Paoloni and his team listen to you, and take time to answer your questions. To us, thoroughness includes compassion and understanding of each individual. To help you organize your ideas, consider mapping out a birth plan. We balance the latest cutting edge knowledge and technology with years of experience and expertise. Most importantly, we always include you in any decision making regarding your medical care.

During your first prenatal visit, we will discuss your medical history, conduct a physical exam, order lab tests, calculate your due date and arrange your prenatal care plan. Unless otherwise instructed, you can expect to make monthly visits throughout your first 28 weeks, then every 2-3 weeks until your 36th week, when you will need to be seen weekly for the remainder of your pregnancy. During each visit, we will evaluate your progress thoroughly.

Eat Healthy and Stay Hydrated

According to the American Pregnancy Association, drinking more fluids during pregnancy is essential. Your body needs more water to help support your and your baby’s growing blood volume. Not enough water can lead to constipation, fatigue, and even preterm labor. Time to fill your glass! Stock your kitchen full of healthy foods for snacks and mealtimes.  A healthy snack of fruit or vegetables adds vitamins to fortify your pregnancy.

Take a Prenatal Vitamin

Getting proper nutrition is important for a healthy pregnancy, and your body requires an additional dose of certain vitamins at this time. For instance, pregnant women need to bump up their folic acid intake from 400 to 600 micrograms (mcg) a day to protect against birth defects.

The List of Don’ts

  • Avoid alcohol
  • Quit smoking
  • Avoid certain foods such as undercooked meat, sushi and deli meat as these may contain harmful bacteria that can affect your growing baby
  • Certain medications

Exercise Regularly

Check out prenatal exercise classes in your area. Moderate exercise is a great energy booster. Check with your doctor about limitations and suggestions that are appropriate for your pregnancy.
